All I Wanted Was A Pepsi
“I have an idea for a cover,” said Rose when we were kicking back. “But it might be out of your comfort zone.”
“Try us,” said Tim with a chuckle.
“Alright,” she said and she pulled out a cassette from her purse. She stuck it in the stereo and turned up the volume. “Tell me what you think.”
As soon as the song started she was already singing along. The verses were spoken word and the chorus was super fast punk rock. It struck me right away that this would be a challenging song to do vocals to. But Rose was killing it. We all started laughing when she yelled that all she wanted was a Pepsi.
“You nailed it!” said Tim. “You know, I kind of figured you might be a Suicidal fan.”
I looked at Tim. “You know this song too?”
“Hell yeah. Suicidal Tendencies!”
We listened to it a few more times and all agreed it would be a fun song to do. When we tried it as a band, we found that it was harder than we expected.
“I thought punk rock was supposed to be easy,” I said after we kept screwing up the transition from verse to chorus. Eventually we got it though and it felt great.
