Live Wire

I woke up thinking this might be the best day of my life. For so long, I wanted our band to play the school lunch. And I still couldn’t believe it was happening. The principal even seemed to have a positive attitude about us playing.
“Just don’t use profanity,” she said when she was laying down the ground rules.
“Of course,” we all answered in unison.

I had a lot of nervous energy as we walked out on the stage. I looked out at the crowd and did my best to keep it together. I was glad that we decided to open with Live Wire by AC/DC. It was a great opener. We strapped on our instruments and all turned to face each other. We all made eye contact and nodded our heads in agreement. It was do or die now and we were ready to rock. Mick started the song with the steady succession of B notes. A few measures later, I came in with the chords. Next came the high hat on the backbeats. And that’s when Rose addressed the crowd.

“Hey Santa Teresa High School! How are you all doin’ out there?” The tension was building and the full on drumbeat was seconds away.
“Alright you guys! Are you ready to fucking party?” she yelled at the top of her voice.
Pow! The drums came in and I saw her lips saying “oops” as she raised her shoulders and cracked an innocent smile. So much for the no cussing rule. But the crowd was going nuts now and we all had huge grins. I breathed a huge sigh of relief. We were now in our element and rocking hard.
