Mom Found My Weed Plant
“I’m so bummed,” said Mick the next day at school. “My mom found the weed plant I was growing.”
“Ah man,” I said. “How’d she find it?”
“She was snooping around in my closet. I have no idea why. But in hindsight, I should have hid it better.”
“Was she mad?” said Tim.
“Not as mad as I thought she’d be. But she said she was disappointed. The weird thing was she was acting like I should be scared of it. I told her that weed is pretty harmless. But then she started talking about how it’s a gateway drug. And that soon I’ll be in a gutter somewhere, strung out on crack or cocaine or something.”
“Damn,” said Tim. “That’s pretty harsh. The thing is, I don’t believe in this whole gateway drug thing.”
Mick looked at him. “You don’t?”
“Not at all. Remember when we tried coke that one time at Mike’s house?”
“I didn’t even like it,” I said.
“That’s what I mean,” said Tim. “I didn’t either. As much as I like weed, I’ve never had an interest in harder drugs.”
“Same here,” I admitted. “Maybe your mom saw that movie Reefer Madness. That movie scared a lot of people away from weed.”
“I’m not sure,” said Mick. “But now that you mention it, that would be a good movie to get high to.” We all laughed.
“I’m gonna rent it,” said Tim. “Next time I’m at the video store.”
“Good thinking,” I said. “Let’s watch it next movie night.”
