Playing the Pony Express
“Hey Tommy,” said Tim from the other side of the BBQ. He motioned for me to come over.
"Andy says he can get us into the Pony Express."
"The pony what?"
"You don't know the Pony?” said Andy. “It's a totally rad pizza place up in Redwood City. They always have local bands play there. The cool thing is that it's all ages."
“No way! That rocks,” I said. “All the rock clubs I know about are 21 and over.”
“No doubt,” said Andy.
“Yeah,” said Tim. “We’re a few years away from playing those places.”
“Fuckin’ A,” said Andy. “But yeah I’m pretty sure I can get you in. You guys have some good songs. You just need to come up with a condensed version of your set. Try to trim it down to your best 45 minutes. Then maybe I can get you in on a Friday or Saturday night.”
“That would rock,” I said.
“No doubt,” said Andy. “You won’t be headlining though.”
“What?! Forget it then,” I said, trying to be cocky.
Andy laughed. “Don’t worry dude, you’ll get there in time. You need to start at the bottom though. And work your way up. That’s how Mötley did it.”
“It is?”
“No doubt.”
