Prince - Purple Rain

Seeing Purple Rain was an eye opener for me. I always knew Prince had cool songs but I never completely appreciated how good he was until seeing the movie. The way it started was like the beginning of a concert. It started with Prince and the Revolution playing in some night club. A church organ played while Prince did a sermon like speech about life and the afterworld. This was the intro to “Let’s Go Crazy”.

As the song came to an end, Prince jumped on the piano and started shredding on his telecaster with a wah wah infused guitar solo. That’s when I realized Prince wasn’t a typical pop star. For one thing, he was a bad ass guitarist. And as much as I always thought it was cool that Michael Jackson got Eddie Van Halen to play a killer solo on “Beat It”, it occurred to me that Prince wouldn’t have needed to. Prince would have just done it himself. I admired that.
