School Lunch
The next day at practice, Tim had great news. “Looks like we’re playing the school lunch!”
“No way!” said Mick. “That kicks ass! You know, for some reason I thought Trashy Roxy was going to get it.”
“I know,” said Tim. “They have a bigger following for sure. But they wouldn’t have been able to do it anyway.”
“What?” said Mick.
“Yeah. Their singer pulled a hamstring. It happened during their last show when he was trying to do the splits.”
“Ah man,” said Rose with a mild chuckle.
“Yeah, his doctor told him to take it easy for a while. So really it was between us and Echo Tears,” said Tim. “But guess what got us in. They really liked the literary aspect to our songs.”
“No shit?” said Mick.
“I shit you not. For one thing, they said they loved the tape. But the one thing that really won them over was that a lot of our song ideas come from books. That’s what they said at least. So I played that up big time. I told them that it would inspire kids to read.”
“Well played!” said Rose.
“Also, they liked the historical aspect of songs like ‘Better Days Ahead’.”
“I told you,” said Mick. “That was an important part of history.”
