Weird Timings
The next day at practice, I was trying to remember the new riff I was going to show off. Mick beat me to it again as he started playing the opening bass line of “Money” by Pink Floyd.
“I love that bass line,” I said as I looked at his fingers to get the notes.
Tim agreed as he joined in with a beat. Rose grabbed the mic and started rockin’ out to it. How did she always know all the words?
“Wait a minute,” said Tim as he waved us down to stop playing. “This has a weird timing or something.”
“Yeah dude,” said Mick. “It’s in 7/4.”
Tim looked at him. “What chu say?”
“Seven mother fuckin’ four!” said Mick slowly with exaggerated mock annoyance.
Tim cracked a smile. “Ah, no wonder. Ok, loop that part.”
“Sure thing,” said Mick as he played the main riff again. He played it repeatedly and the rest of us jammed along.
“Ok, got it,” said Tim. “Let’s take it from the top.”
